Catching his first glimpse of the stacked mound of kindling and the dour-faced Dominican priest, Caedmon's heart slammed against his breastbone.
"There's been a mistake !" he fearfully exclaimed . "I'm not supposed to be here!"
"Here" being an unlit funeral pyre at the foot of Montsegur.
