Musing Mondays {Dec03}

This week’s musing, courtesy of Booking Through Thursday, asks…
How do you organize/store your books? Do you go through them often? Or do you pretty much just shelve them and then leave them alone until you need them?

I have 2 shelves for my Elizabeth Chadwick collection ,this is on a small bookcase turned on its side.
I have one shelf for my "research" factual books, and one and a bit shelves for other books J.Z. Colby  ect.
I do go through them every so often .

Lamp from ‘River Clyde’, 1915
This lamp is from a converted collier, ‘River Clyde’. On April 25th, 1915, it lit the way to hell for 2,000 soldiers, mostly members of the Munster and Dublin Fusiliers. They had been chosen as the shock troops of an Allied landing near Sedd-el-Bahr at Cape Helles, on the southern tip of the Gallipoli peninsula, in Turkey.

Musing Mondays {25.06/2012}

This weeks musing ... Do you set goals for yourself, while reading? For example, “I want to get this book finished this weekend“, or “I will read __ pages today“, etc. Why, or why not?

My answer :
Sometimes i set mini goals ,if I'm reading a long book I'll read for say an hour.
Or to the end of the page I'm on . Which ever comes first !
With some of my recent reads my goal was "slow down reading!" lol
I have a tendency to race to the end ,finishing a new 500pg plus book in 1 day.

Musing Mondays {11/06/2012}

What is the longest book you have ever read? How long did it take you to read it?

I've read a few really long books. Generally how long it takes depends on how good the story is!
Here's a few of the contenders for longest book read .
Darkman's by Nicola Barker 848pg,  Pillars Of The Earth by Ken Follet 1100 pages!

Musing Mondays {14.05.2012}

This weeks musing ........

"Do you tend to read to the end of a chapter or can you stop anywhere?"

Usualy i read to the end of a chapter, if the chaper is very long i'll read to a page break.
I also use bookmarks to hold the pages and sometime use post it notes also.
 It depends on the book. lol

"Bloody" Propaganda

ElizabethI : 800 a year each year of her reign,30,000.
Mary Tudor :283 total for reign.This is so called Bloody Mary?

HenryVIII:30,000.

Shakespear is good for many things tradgedy,drama,comedy, ect.
What is often missed is he is/was writing for the Tudor court of Elizabeth1.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shakespeare
I consider him a "spin doctor", he can't do positive history plays unless her realives get a postive ,smypathic view!
"Shakespeare was living in the reign of Elizabeth I, the last monarch of the house of Tudor, and his history plays are often regarded as Tudor propaganda because they show the dangers of civil war and celebrate the founders of the Tudor dynasty."http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shakespearean_history
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01gg7dt
Another point with all the questions about authourship of Shakespear is ,He may have been Chatolic .
"members of Shakespeare's family were Catholics, at a time when Catholic practice was against the law.[179] Shakespeare's mother, Mary Arden, certainly came from a pious Catholic family. The strongest evidence might be a Catholic statement of faith signed by John Shakespeare, found in 1757 in the rafters of his former house in Henley Street. The document is now lost, however, and scholars differ as to its authenticity.[180] In 1591 the authorities reported that John Shakespeare had missed church "for fear of process for debt", a common Catholic excuse.[181] In 1606 the name of William's daughter Susanna appears on a list of those who failed to attend Easter communion in Stratford.["

My teaser from "The Templar's Quest" by C.M. Palov .

Catching his first glimpse of the stacked mound of kindling and the dour-faced Dominican priest, Caedmon's heart slammed  against his breastbone.
"There's been a mistake !" he fearfully exclaimed . "I'm not supposed to be here!"
"Here" being an unlit funeral pyre at the foot of Montsegur.
